"The use of CDMA by global operators in extremely competitive multi-technology markets, such as North and South America and Asia, is indicative of the technology's ability to deliver the most advanced services," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG.

"Operators on every major continent have chosen CDMA as their technology for 3G. In fact, two of Korea's largest wireless operators, SK Telecom and KT Freetel, have announced that they are preparing to launch the world's first commercial 3G services using cdma2000, as early as this year."

From June 1999 to June 2000, CDMA subscribers increased 96 percent reaching more than 23 million in North America, while the Asia Pacific region maintained its dominant position with 33 million. Latin America experienced the strongest growth by increasing 346 percent, followed by a 183 percent increase in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Europe, the Middle East and Africa, usually abbreviated to EMEA, is a regional designation used for government, marketing and business purposes. CDMA provides mobile operators and manufacturers the ability to offer a variety of value-added services today, such as wireless Internet and information services.
