CDISC Granted ISO Liaison A Status.


AUSTIN, Texas -- The International Organization of Standardization International Organization of Standardization,

) has granted Liaison A status to the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) is a non-profit organization, whose mission is "to develop and support global, platform-independent data standards that enable information system interoperability to improve medical research and related areas of  (CDISC CDISC Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium ). With this liaison status, CDISC can participate at the Technical Committee level, in addition to the Working Group level, and can propose that an existing standard be considered through the ISO "Fast-track procedure". CDISC is working with ISO Technical Committee 215 Health Informatics, which is chaired by Dr. Yun Sik Kwak.

"ISO Liaison A status for CDISC is a testimony to the progressive and effective engagement by CDISC of partner standards development organizations, and the recognition by ISO that we are operating within a larger framework of integrated standards development," stated Dr. Christopher Chute, Chair, Division of Biomedical Informatics, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Director on the CDISC Board. "In combination, this is a strong testimony to the importance of clinical research standards, and of CDISC's leadership in this space."

The CDISC mission and strategy stress a link between clinical/medical research and healthcare information through standards. To this end, CDISC initiated the development of an open, collaborative model, the Biomedical Research Integrated Domain Group (BRIDG) model (www.bridgmodel.org) to represent clinical research in the healthcare standards space. CDISC has had a Charter Agreement to collaborate with Health Level Seven (HL7) since 2001 and its President participates in an advisory group for the World Health Organization (WHO) on their Clinical Trial Registry Platform. CDISC participates in the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO, which is chaired by Dr. Chute and managed by the American National Standards Institute See ANSI.
