CDFM certification renewals ongoing--and a bit of bad news for some CDFMs.The process of renewing CDFM certifications after a 24-month period from award is continuous. Be sure that the ASMC certification office has your latest mailing address. You will receive a letter stating that 24 months have passed since you were certified and asking you to affirm that you have earned the required 80 hours of continuing professional education (CPE). If you have moved in the interim but have not updated your address, you may not have received your letter. For convenience, it is posted on the www.asmccertification.com Web site. You can download both the letter and the form you need to complete and return to ASMC headquarters. If you need to apply for all extension of time to complete your CPE, detailed instructions tell you how. A very small number of people have been advised that their CDFM designation is now inactive for one of three reasons: They did not respond to the letter requesting that they renew the certification after 24 months had elapsed, they did not respond to ASMC's request to audit CPE hours, or they did not present enough hours in the audit to satisfy the requirement for 80 hours of CPE. After much deliberation, ASMC sent notices directing that these persons not display their CDFM certificates in public and that they do not use the CDFM designation on correspondence or on business cards. To do so will be considered a violation of the Pledge of Professionalism. Reinstating the CDFM designation is easy, and ASMC strongly encourages that people do so as soon as possible. Simply forward a CDFM renewal form (available on the certification Web site at www.asmccertification.com) to ASMC headquarters with a check for the renewal fee ($20.00) and include documentation of 80 hours of CPE within the past 24-month period. Do not send your originals; send only photocopies. Individuals will be notified in writing when the CDFM designation is returned to active status. If you do not have the required 80 hours of CPE, contact John Raines at ASMC headquarters so that you can work out a plan to earn it. (Contact information appears at the end of this article.) Should ASMC not hear from such individuals within 90 days of the date of the letters inactivating the CDFM, it will be suspended and eventually revoked. After revocation, only successfully retaking the certification examinations can reinstate the CDFM designation. If you have received your annual notice, complete it and mail it back promptly. |
