CDFM Continuing Professional Education (CPE) audit conducted by ASMC.

With over 1500 certified defense financial managers (CDFMs), there are several hundred who have now been certified for more than 24 months. These persons must renew their CDFM status and self-certify that, during the past 24 months, they have completed 80 CPE units. The units may take a variety of forms including college courses, seminars, luncheons featuring professional speakers, teaching, research, and writing articles for publication. Detailed guidance on CPE is contained on the ASMC Certification Web site at www.asmccertification.com.

Of the first 300 persons who self-certified, a 10 percent sample was chosen for audit. These persons were requested to mail in copies (not originals) of their CPE logs and training certificates for review. The response was excellent, and many had hours beyond the required 80. A very small number of CDFMs have not responded and have been sent a second notification. The message here for CDFMs is to maintain their logs as they earn the CPEs. It's much easier than trying to assemble a record after the 24 months have passed.

If you have been CDFM-certified for over 24 months and have not heard from ASMC, please contact us as soon as possible. If you have heard from us and have not replied, please do so. While we make every possible effort to contact CDFMs at the 24-month point, CDFMs are a highly mobile population, and we are not always successful.

If we have not heard from you after two notification letters have been sent, you may be placed in an inactive status and asked not to display your CDFM certificate or to use the CDFM designation on correspondence or on business cards until the certification has been properly renewed. The person to contact is John Bunnell. His e-mail address is Bunnellj@asmccertification.com.

There is a $20 fee charged for renewing certification. Forms are available for downloading on the ASMC certification Web site.
