Adj. 1. , The Who were the ultimate auto-destruct rock band. The Stones were the blues outlaws and The Beatles an endlessly inventive pop monster, but The Who went further - into the depths of confusion, frustration and anger. It's almost 40 years since they changed their name from The High Numbers and released the blistering blis·ter·ing n. See vesiculation. anthem of sexual inarticulacy, I Can't Explain. Along the way, Keith Moon Keith John Moon (August 23, 1946 – September 7, 1978) was the drummer of the rock group The Who. Moon became known for an innovative and dramatic style of drumming, often eschewing basic back beats for a fluid, extremely busy technique focused on fast, cascading rolls across and John Entwistle have self-destructed, dying sad rock 'n' roll deaths. Townshend even admitted he considered suicide after his arrest on charges related to accessing child porn websites. Now, teamed together with Roger Daltrey, bassist Pino Paladino and Zak Starkey, he is in the process of making the first Who album in 22 years. These two releases are a reminder of the daunting daunt tr.v. daunt·ed, daunt·ing, daunts To abate the courage of; discourage. See Synonyms at dismay. The 1st Singles Box comprises 11 singles with both A and B sides from I Can't Explain/Bald Headed Woman (1964) to Who Are You/Had Enough (1977). The bonus 12th disc is the first music from the new line-up - Real Good Looking Boy/Old Red Wine - however, it won't actually be released as a single. Then And Now, a standard career overview, also contains the two new songs. But it overlooks highlights from the underated Who By Numbers and omits the classic Anyway, Anyhow an·y·how adv. 1. In whatever way or manner; however: I'll cook it anyhow you like. They came anyhow they could by boat, train, or plane. Anywhere, also absent from the boxset.
Both releases are obvious attempts to turn The Who's maximum R&B to maximum profit, leaving some gems in the vaults as future money-spinners. Even so, the two new songs provide a strong incentive to buy either set. Old Red Wine is a touching and furious farewell to The Ox, expressing sadness and fury at Entwistle's passing. With a melody borrowed from Elvis, Real Good Looking Boy brings a mature overview to many of the insecurities that inspired earlier masterpieces such as Pictures Of Lily (just in the box), I'm A Boy (on both) and the towering 5.15 (on both). Recent live outings confirmed Townshend remains the Emperor of Auto-destruction; the new songs show he is a long way from artistic burn out.
