CD Reviews... young reviewers.Driveby Argument - Sex Lines are Expensive Comedy These guys are fantastic. The vocals are lively and exciting, and the lead singer has a perfect voice. The music is fantastic, with a great guitar tune throughout, and the drums and other instruments blend into a marvellous sound. Sex Lines Are Expensive Comedy is a powerful enough lead, but the second track, Dennistoun's That Way, is an emotional and more ballad-influenced track. The lyrics are meaningful and almost moving. I would describe the lead singer's great voice as a male version of Bjork, which also bears a similarity to Alex Parks. Delicate and moving, it reaches great heights and is never too much. I have been greatly impressed by this group, and it will be a travesty if they are just going to be a drive-by hit. SEAN THOMPSON Sean David Thompson (born October 13, 1982 in La Junta, Colorado) is a Major League Baseball left handed pitcher for the Colorado Rockies. Thompson was selected by the San Diego Padres in the the 5th round (145th overall) in the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. Enter Shikari shi·ka·ri n. pl. shi·ka·ris 1. A big-game hunter. 2. A guide for big-game hunting. [Hindi shik - Johnny Sniper This is another unusual group I have often heard of, but never actually heard. I was looking forward to it, but Johnny Sniper was a bit of a disappointment. Initially I was put off by the inane screaming into the microphone, which this British band employ often. Their music is very loud and hardcore. However, I think there are similar American groups, and Enter Shikari aren't much different. Although there were some good lyrics and calmer vocals throughout, I felt it was all a bit too much. I just don't like the screaming, it isn't really singing - but I'm sure there are many who appreciate this noise. SEAN THOMPSON Pretty Ricky Pretty Ricky is an American R&B/hip-hop group made up of brothers Diamond Blue "Baby Blue" Smith, Spectacular Blue Smith, Corey Lamar "Slick'Em" Mathis[1], and now departed member Marcus Ramone "Pleasure" Cooper. - Push it Baby Featuring Sean Paul This article is about the Jamaican reggae artist. For the American rapper, see Sean P. Sean Paul Henriques (born January 8 1973[][]) is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist. High-quality production by the team behind this track is the only positive remark I can make. I'm under the impression that the addition of Sean Paul is supposed to spice things up a little; for me it doesn't. The same Sean Paul formula is followed, introducing himself and his ego at the start of the track followed by some words informing listeners how much the ladies like him. The rapping by the remainder of the cast is atrocious, every line ending with ah ah ah, la la la or ba ba ba. Very poor indeed. DAVID David, in the Bible David, d. c.970 B.C., king of ancient Israel (c.1010–970 B.C.), successor of Saul. The Book of First Samuel introduces him as the youngest of eight sons who is anointed king by Samuel to replace Saul, who had been deemed a failure. BULLOCK bullock a mature castrated male cattle destined for meat production or draft. The Coral - Who's Gonna Find Me The Coral do it again. Quality tripped-out pop is my way to define previous releases from this band. The track maintains the high standards expected from this outfit. There's a nice melody throughout, with some odd synthetic sounds accompanying some catchy guitar and drum tracks. The lyrics are melancholic mel·an·chol·ic adj. 1. Affected with or being subject to melancholy. 2. Of or relating to melancholia. , describing a search for self-meaning. The Coral's search is over with the find of this great track. DAVID BULLOCK Transformers - The Album (Music from the motion picture) - CD Album Review With the film being a box-office success in the States, it's with disappointment that I have to say the album, as a whole, is a definite let-down. However, it starts well. It opens with What I've Done by Linkin Park. This dark but deeply enjoyable track certainly sets the tone of the album - dark and brooding. This track is excellent and certainly proves that Linkin Park can still cut it when it comes to creating tracks for a particular film. However, this is the only decent track on the album, and, as an album spanning 12 tracks, you soon realise how bad the album actually is. The rest of the tracks offered by the album are a strange mix of ballad, techno, heavy rock and pop music, and some of the tracks are not even featured in the film, posing the question what was the point in including them on the album? Overall this is one to be avoided, unless you're either a massive Transformers fan or love Linkin Park, in which case buy their new album, not this one. See also: Day with a glass of wine. The lyrics are simple yet catchy, and more than likely to have many people singing along to them while either chilling out or driving in their cars. If the rest of the tracks are like this on Faulkner's new album Hand Built by Robots, then I can only say one thing, move over Jack Johnson, because this track is incredible Sletalt seasons - join the CHRIS CONWAY |
