CCH COMPUTAX ANNOUNCES RESTRUCTURING

 CCH COMPUTAX ANNOUNCES RESTRUCTURING
RIVERWOODS, Ill., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- CCH Computax Inc., a wholly

owned subsidiary of Commerce Clearing House Inc. (NASDAQ: CCRLA), has announced a series of restructuring actions. Computax pioneered the computerized tax processing industry almost 30 years ago and has long enjoyed the preeminent position as the tax processing industry leader.
Over the last several years, tax returns processed in a service bureau environment have been declining. This year the rate of decline has increased and large numbers of customers have moved their tax return processing "in-house". This movement to in-house processing and the resulting decline in tax processing revenue requires Computax to initiate immediate action to protect future profitability.
Computax will be shifting its strategic focus to the micro-based tax processing software aspect of its product line. The change in focus will allow repositioning of products, service and support costs to match its customers' changing buying habits.
On April 29, 1992, Computax announced that approximately 150 of the 650 employee positions located at its Torrance, Calif., headquarters would be eliminated on June 29, 1992. Prior to this action, there were approximately 1,500 employees throughout the country. Computax will also begin a program to consolidate its 31 processing locations. The final processing consolidation plan is scheduled to be announced later in May.
Commerce Clearing House Inc. anticipates recording a major restructuring charge in the second quarter ending June 30, 1992 as a result of these and other related actions.
