LAN switching is a form of packet switching used in local area networks. The CD-ROMs contain material on subnetting (practice and reference pages), memory tables, and ICND1 open-ended questions. The author, of course, is a seasoned expert and Cisco teacher. The book is well written and complete given its age. One of the cds included with the book provides access to Boson's test engine which provides a great source of test questions, including several simuations. Just for the record, Boson did not write the questions, but rather only supplied the test engine. Still this is a great resource to prepare for the actual exam. Unfortunately the book, even with the test questions and while providing a good foundation in the subject matter, may not be enough to pass the ICND1 exam. You will probably need to acquire additional study material including more sample test questions and probably a simulation package. There are a number of software packages available on the market to address both the test questions and the simulation. Good shopping, good studying, and best of luck on your test.
