CCBC Names New Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement.

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000

Ernest J. Notar, Ph.D., has been appointed the new vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement at The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC).

Notar will be responsible for external relations and development functions, including fund raising, at the college. He comes to CCBC from the University of Maryland at College Park, where he served as development director for the University Libraries.

"We are extremely pleased that someone with Dr. Notar's talents is joining our CCBC team. He has an impressive academic background as well as extensive experience furthering public higher education," said Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail, CCBC chancellor. "He understands the needs of the College and will help expand our relationships among those who are committed to excellence and relevance in higher education in the Baltimore metropolitan area. He will work closely with community leaders, corporations, foundations, alumni and friends to broaden CCBC's base of private support that is so essential for building and maintaining excellence. A comprehensive advancement effort will strengthen the college and enable CCBC to solidify its reputation as a Vanguard Learning College."

Notar, who holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in political science and Asian studies from the University of California at Berkeley, has a long track record of successful development efforts. He has also served as director of Development for the International Youth Foundation, Baltimore; and director of International Development, UC, Berkeley, where he was responsible for university-wide international fund raising and alumni development during two major capital campaigns.

Earlier assignments as a program manager at The Asia Foundation in San Francisco, The Asia Society in New York, and the Institute of East Asian Studies at Berkeley, have given him wide experience in higher education.

Community colleges are vital in that they articulate the needs and aspirations of the communities they serve. Each of the three campuses has a long and impressive record of providing high quality education for the people of Baltimore County," Notar said.

Notar is joining CCBC at a time when the college is fast establishing itself as one of the foremost institutions for undergraduate education and workforce training in Maryland and beyond.

This year, CCBC earned a national Bellwether Award for its LearningFirst strategic plan and was recently named a Vanguard Learning College, recognizing the college as one of only 12 premier, learning-centered community colleges in the United States and Canada.

Notar is a native of Buffalo, N.Y. He lives in Baltimore with his wife and daughter.
