At SUPERCOMM 2002 today, Catena Networks announced that its CNX-5 Broadband DSL System is being deployed by CC Communications, the largest county-owned carrier in the U.S.

The CNX-5 system enabled CC Communications to provide DSL service to customers served from its installed base of Lucent SLC(R) Series 5 (SLC-5) Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) Systems.

"More than one-third of our lines are served from SLC-5s, so Catena's CNX-5 system is the perfect solution for us," said Vic Slaughter, assistant general manager for CC Communications. During evaluations of Catena's new DS3 configuration, CC Communications successfully delivered high-speed Internet and 40 channels of digital TV through its SLC-5 remote terminals.

The Catena CNX-5 Broadband DSL system is a card-for-card upgrade solution for Lucent SLC-5 DLCs that enables service providers to deliver two lines of Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) and two lines of ADSL services on any copper pair, without reducing the number of available POTS lines.

According to Slaughter, "Until now, we had no way of providing broadband services to our customers served from remote terminals. The CNX-5 was easy to install and has given us a simple solution to meet the growing demand for DSL."

The CNX-5 provides a cost-effective, scalable solution for deploying DSL service to the 20 million subscribers served by SLC-5 remote terminals. Service providers can add linecards as needed to expand DSL availability in two-line increments. This simple card-for-card upgrade eliminates the need for overlay solutions such as network-side POTS splitters, mini-RAMs and remote DSLAMs. Once installed, carriers can provision DSL via the CatenaView Element Management System, without costly truck rolls.
