VDOnet Corp.'s VDOLive(TM) will be used for the unprecedented project.

"In our efforts to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art coverage of this year's political campaign to the public, we are delighted to complement our broadcast programming with a growing new medium that has such enormous potential," said Heyward. "VDOnet is the leader in video on the Internet, and we are extremely happy to be working with them on this historic project."

"We are very pleased that CBS News, the pioneer in news and information on both radio and television, has adopted VDOLive for covering such important events on the newest mass communications medium -- the Internet," said Asaf Mohr, president and chief executive officer of VDOnet.

"This is an important example of how live video on the Net will continue to change the way we communicate around the world. Additionally, as the infrastructure for the Internet improves, our technology will allow the quality of video to improve along with it."

"Where we are now with interactive technology is comparable to where television was 40 years ago, although the new technology will develop quicker," said Dean Daniels, director, Interactive News Services, CBS News, who developed the project with VDOnet.  seized every platform he could get his hands on for spreading information to the average person, whether it was radio when it was new or television in its infancy. We feel that if Murrow were around today, he'd grab the chance to get on the Web and communicate one-to-one with people."

The live video will be included on CBS News' "Campaign '96" Web site (http://www.cbsnews.com/campaign96). The video will appear as a window on the consumer's computer screen. CBS News will also provide convention schedules, speaker profiles and regularly updated campaign news.

The Republican National Convention will take place Aug. 12-15 in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. , and the Democratic National Convention will take place Aug. 26-29 in Chicago.

VDOLive is based on VDOnet's technology which enables virtually anyone on the Internet to view video in real time, a feat not possible before the company's technology was developed. The Internet is a complex web of very narrow and "leaky" pipes and any video running through them must be compressed to a very small size and can easily lose data -- both of which result in loss of quality.

VDOnet has solved the problems posed by the Internet through a sophisticated series of technologies that adjust automatically to the available bandwidth and protect the integrity of the video as it is running through the pipe.

The CBS News "Campaign '96" Web site was launced on Feb. 12 this year, the same day as the Iowa caucuses, the political season's first major event. CBS News was the first network news division to launch a site on the World Wide Web when "UP TO THE MINUTE," CBS News' overnight broadcast, debuted its site in February 1995 (http://uttm.com).

VDOLive, which was launched in October 1995, has been adopted by many Web sites around the world. It is being used for entertainment, information and a variety of business uses of video on the Internet. VDOnet Corp. is a private company based in Palo Alto Palo Alto, city, California
