CBS' November ratings actually were down 8 percent from November 1997. In fact, the WB was the only one of the top six networks to post a year-to-year gain in viewers during sweeps month.

``60 Minutes'' was the week's most-watched show and had its highest ratings of the season. It comes one week after the newsmagazine was criticized for trying to boost ratings by showing a video of Dr. Jack Kevorkian allegedly killing a terminally ill Terminally Ill

NBC also pre-empted its struggling Monday night schedule of sitcoms last week, but its emergency airing of ``While You Were Sleeping'' still scored lower than CBS' comedies and a David Letterman anniversary special.

At least NBC could take comfort in a parade. The network estimated that some 46 million people watched at least part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, its highest viewership since 1993.

ABC's ``20/20'' interview of Kenneth Starr by Diane Sawyer finished among the week's top 10 shows.

NBC's ``Nightly News'' won the evening news competition with an 8.3 rating and 17 share. ABC's ``World News Tonight'' was second with an 8.2 rating and 16 share and the ``CBS Evening News'' had a 7.9 and 16.
