CBRE names its new sustainability director.

CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc. announced it has named Dave Pogue as its national director of Sustainability, Institutional and Corporate Services, providing leadership for the company's sustainability programs for its property and facilities management portfolio across the Americas.

In his new role, Pogue will be responsible for managing the development, introduction and implementation of a wide-ranging platform of sustainable practices and policies throughout the firm's 1.1 billion-sq.-ft. Americas portfolio of managed properties, with the goal of achieving a consistent balance of maximum financial performance and responsible environmental stewardship.

Pogue, senior managing director of CBRE's Asset Services Group, Western Region, currently is responsible for the Asset Services operations in the Western portion of the United States, overseeing service delivery for office, retail, and industrial real estate properties totaling more than 250 million sq. ft. In addition, Mr. Pogue currently leads the development and introduction of the firm's Asset Services Sensible Sustainability program for managed properties. These efforts include the aggressive endorsement of the EPA's Energy Star program. The EPA recently named CB Richard Ellis as a 2008 Energy Star Partner of the Year, recognizing the company's outstanding energy management and reductions in green house emissions. Award winners are selected from more than 9,000 organizations that participate in the Energy Star program.

In the US, CBRE has instituted a number of programs for the commercial buildings it manages, including the establishment of the Green Knights, a nationwide team of sustainability advocates; the development and introduction of "101 Tips for Successful Sustainability;" the introduction of a 12-Step "Standards of Sustainability" for all managed office assets; and the launch of a recycling pilot program for office buildings.

Other programs include adoption of the Building Owners and Managers Association's Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP), an education program that teaches commercial real estate professionals how to reduce energy consumption, as well as BOMA's 7-Point Challenge for reducing the use of natural resources, nonrenewable energy sources and waste production.
