 CATERPILLAR KEY PERSONNEL CHANGES
 PEORIA, Ill., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- David A. Lewis, Caterpillar


vice president with administrative responsibility for the Diversified Products Division, has elected to retire July 1, 1992. Succeeding him will be Richard A. Benson, who is a vice president of Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) and president of Caterpillar Industrial Inc.
 Lewis, a native of Peoria, started with Caterpillar in 1956 as a research engineer. He has a master of science degree from Purdue University. In 1968, he became manager of the research division in the Parts Distribution Department. He held various managerial jobs in Parts Distribution, the East Peoria Plant, and the U.S. Commercial Division before becoming vice president of Parts and Service in 1983. In 1985, he became vice president of North American Commercial Division and moved into his current position in 1990.
 Benson started with Caterpillar in 1970 in the Economics Department. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University in 1970, and has both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Illinois. In 1978 he became a manager in Product Source Planning Department, then in 1982 moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, as managing director of a Caterpillar subsidiary, P.T. Natra Raya. He returned to Peoria as manager of Product Source Planning in 1987 and in 1990 moved to Mentor, Ohio, as a vice president and head of the company's wholly owned lift truck subsidiary.
 In March of this year, Caterpillar Industrial Inc. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan announced plans to form a joint venture to design, manufacture, and market lift trucks. MHI will have the majority position in the joint venture company. The transaction is expected to be completed around July 1 and, in addition to his Diversified Products responsibilities, Benson will represent Caterpillar Inc. on the board of the lift truck joint venture.
