CATERPILLAR INC. ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITY OF UNPAID PERSONAL LEAVES OF
ABSENCE FOR HOURLY WORKERS AT TRACK TYPE TRACTOR BUSINESS UNIT
PEORIA, Ill., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Caterpillar Inc.(NYSE: CAT) said today that because demand continues at a low level for products produced by the Track Type Tractor Business Unit, hourly employees in that unit are being given an opportunity to take unpaid personal leaves of absence.
The East Peoria, Illinois-based unit expects that about 100 employees will take advantage of the option. Personal leaves will be granted based on business needs.
Employees who go on personal leave will have their medical, dental, vision, and drug coverage continued at no cost to them.
Caterpillar's outlook statement, as reported on Oct. 22, has not changed. That statement says, in part:
"Given current economic conditions and continuing uncertainties about the timing and strength of recoveries, it appears that machine industry demand in 1993 could be essentially flat, although some upside potential is possible from a faster recovery in Europe and stronger recovery in North America. In addition, company sales will benefit from improved price realization, more stable dealer inventory levels, and improved engine sales."
