CASTROL V. PENNZOIL COURT DATE EXPEDITED, SET FOR APRIL 22

CASTROL V. PENNZOIL COURT DATE EXPEDITED, SET FOR APRIL 22
NEWARK, N.J., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Castrol Inc. announced today that Federal Judge Alfred Wolin has set an expedited trial date of April 22 to hear its suit against Pennzoil Company (NYSE: PZL) in federal court here.
Castrol has also sought an immediate restraining order halting broadcast of five Pennzoil television commercials which Castrol believes are false and misleading. Judge Wolin declined to issue an injunction on the limited record before the Court.
The challenged advertisements claim that Pennzoil motor oils "outperform" the competition "against viscosity breakdown" and that Pennzoil provides better protection against engine failure and shortened engine life.
The lawsuit asserts that Castrol motor oils equal or surpass Pennzoil motor oils in every recognized test for viscosity breakdown, and that there is no evidence of any kind to support Pennzoil's claims of better protection.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to present our full case to the judge on April 22," said Edward J. Carhart, Castrol's Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "Castrol motor oils meet the world's toughest viscosity standards. We believe Pennzoil's superiority claims are baseless."
