CASTOFF MISSILE CAUSES LANDFILL SCARE.

Byline: Lisa Mascaro Daily News Staff Writer

Discovery of an 8-foot-long, Persian Gulf Persian Gulf, arm of the Arabian Sea, 90,000 sq mi (233,100 sq km), between the Arabian peninsula and Iran, extending c.600 mi (970 km) from the Shatt al Arab delta to the Strait of Hormuz, which links it with the Gulf of Oman.  War-era missile in the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Landfill sent authorities Thursday into emergency mode and brought out a call for naval weapons experts.

Nevermind. The MK7 Discharger was unarmed - a trophy from a local garage sale that the buyer decided wasn't such a must-have item after all.

An official investigation determined that the missile dumper spotted the weapon at a garage sale and thought his son, a fan of the ``Star Trek'' television and movie series, would love it.

``He said it would look good in his son's room,'' said Joe Braga, a detective with the Ventura County sheriff's bomb squad.

The gift turned out not to be such a good idea so the man - who broke no law and was not identified - hauled it to the dump under a lot of other refuse.

After a dump worker spotted the missile, the sheriff's bomb squad called in Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station experts who determined it was harmless The term harmless may be taken in several ways:
