CASTAIC LAKE TO PLAY HOST TO MOUNTAIN BIKE RACES.Byline: Daily News The first in a series of mountain bike races will start this weekend at Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi² . The kickoff event for the Bud Light California Mountain Bike Championships will include races in several categories from beginner to expert, plus a free kids' race. Downhill racing will start at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and cross country will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday along the trails surrounding the lake. The races, sponsored by Michael Epstein Sports Productions, will draw U.S. Olympian Tinker Juarez David Juarez (born March 4, 1961 in Downey, California U.S.) is a former professional "Old School" Bicycle Motocross (BMX) racer and current top mountain bike racer whose prime competitive years in BMX were from 1978 to 1984 and in mountain bike racing 1986 to the present. and reigning state champion David Bly David Bly (b. January 8, 1952 in Dubuque, Iowa) is a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from District 25B [1], which includes Belle Plaine, Bridgewater, Cedar Lake, Dundas, Erin, Forest, Helena, Lonsdale, Nerstrand, Northfield, Shieldsville, Webster, , who will face an estimated 1,500 mountain bikers.
