CASTAIC LAKE TO HOST ENDURANCE COMPETITION.

The Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series, patterned after such endurance races as the X Games X Games Sports medicine The official Olympics of 'extreme sports' sponsored by ESPN, held annually during the summer. See Extreme sports. , will be held this evening at Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi² .

The contests includes ``special mystery tests'' interspersed throughout the 5- to 8-mile trail run with natural obstacles, a one-hour kayak kayak (kī`ăk), Eskimo canoe, originally made of sealskin stretched over a framework of whalebone or driftwood. It is completely covered except for the opening in which the paddler sits.  segment and a 10- to 15-mile mountain bike course.

Teams of three will compete in the race that combines techniques used for survival in the outdoors. Teams will navigate through most of the course in the dark.

The events begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Castaic Lake Recreation Area. About 900 racers will make up 300 teams, including some of the state's best weekend warriors.

The special mystery tests are designed to test competitors' basic survival skills through teamwork and mental and physical problem-solving. Many of the special tests used in the Hi-Tec Series are also used in the Marine Corps, Navy SEAL and Special Forces training sessions.

VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  sheriff's station on Sunday will open its doors - including the ones with bars - for the annual Haunted Jailhouse.

Outdoors, a carnival will be held to raise money for that club as well as Mothers Unlimited, the Optimist Club, United Mothers and the Association to Aid Victims of Domestic Violence. Admission is $1.
