Trophy Bass is trying to reel in fisherman with a sequel that offers cyber-fishing and virtual reproductions of Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  and other popular spots.

Trophy Bass 2, by Sierra On-Line of Bellevue, Wash., features head-to-head competition over the Internet, five tournament lakes and the ability to choose seasons, weather, fishing conditions and equipment.

``It's real sophisticated and at the same time it's real fun,'' company spokeswoman Dee Dee Irby said. ``You have your whole setup right in front of you.''

The $60 program also features videos with fishing tips from pros Larry Nixon and Kevin Van Dam van Dam (Dutch for "of the dam") may refer to:

At Castaic Lake, where a record 22-pound, 1-ounce bass was caught in 1991, one observer was skeptical of the program's popularity.

``You need to find local fishermen who, at the same time, are computer savvy,'' said Stephanie Rioux, assistant manager of Mobile Mini Mart, which sells bait and tackle to bass anglers at Castaic Lake.

``There's nothing like real life,'' she said.

But the software maker hopes to lure fishermen to its latest product, which is available on CD-ROM for Windows 95 and 3.1.
