The Antelope Valley
 physicians have helped to raise $100,000 to help victims of the Indian Ocean Indian Ocean, third largest ocean, c.28,350,000 sq mi (73,427,000 sq km), extending from S Asia to Antarctica and from E Africa to SE Australia; it is c.4,000 mi (6,400 km) wide at the equator. ``The public is generous. There's been overwhelming support,'' said Moorthy, who has lived in the Antelope Valley for 30 years. ``No other people in other parts of world are so generous as Americans. I am so blessed.''

The doctors are among several local groups spearheading drives to raise funds for victims of the tsunami, which is estimated to have killed more than 100,000 people.

Moorthy said he has extended family in the northern and southern parts of Sri Lanka, which is an island off the southern tip of India. Because telephone service is out, he has not been able to find out if they are OK.

``I still don't how they are doing,'' Moorthy said Wednesday. ``It's tough. To be honest with you, when you see such a tragedy, all are your family.''

The money Moorthy and others have collected was sent to buy water, food and medicine.

Moorthy said there are between 25 and 30 physicians in the Antelope Valley who are from Sri Lanka.

A former colleague of Moorthy lost his wife and daughter in the tsunami. Dr. Anton Ambrose works at Northridge Hospital Medical Center Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a hospital in the Northridge town of Los Angeles, California, USA. It is currently operated by Catholic Healthcare West. History

. He and Moorthy worked together as interns in Sri Lanka.

Both men's daughters went to a private school together, Moorthy said.

Ambrose had traveled with his wife, Beulah, to their Sri Lanka homeland to visit their daughter Orlantha, who had left her job at a school in Los Angeles to teach violin to poor children.

``Another friend of mine, a professor in Ohio, he was vacationing with family but got washed away,'' Moorthy said.
