CASE STUDY: FELTON VILLAGE HALL.


THE chairwoman of a Northumberland Northumberland (nôrthŭm`bərlənd), county (1991 pop. 300,600), 2,019 sq mi (5,229 sq km), NE England. Northernmost of the English counties, it is separated from Scotland by the Cheviot Hills and the Tweed River, and borders on the  village hall last night said the loss of funding from the Northern Rock Foundation funding would be an "awful shame" for the region.

 of Felton Village Hall, in Morpeth. It also paid for development of the hall's garden and an extension to the building.

She said: "If funding was to run out, it would be an awful shame.

"We have a great village hall, but it would not have been possible without the foundation.

"I think it's vitally important for the region that it carries on doing what it's doing." The hall is used by more than a dozen community groups, with a new garden and gymnasium gymnasium

In Germany, a state-maintained secondary school that prepares pupils for higher academic education. This type of nine-year school originated in Strasbourg in 1537.
, also paid for by the foundation. "It is a wonderful place," said Mrs Harrison.

"The foundation is so important to the region because village halls like ours would struggle without it."
