CASE AGAINST ATHLETE DROPPED.

Charges will not be filed against Chatsworth baseball player Matt Fisher, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman during a recruiting trip to San Diego State University San Diego State University (SDSU), founded in 1897 as San Diego Normal School, is the largest and oldest higher education facility in the greater San Diego area (generally the City and County of San Diego), and is part of the California State University system.  last weekend, officials said Friday.

``We are not going to issue charges,'' San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  Deputy District Attorney Kathleen Lewis said. ``We feel there is insufficient evidence insufficient evidence n. a finding (decision) by a trial judge or an appeals court that the prosecution in a criminal case or a plaintiff in a lawsuit has not proved the case because the attorney did not present enough convincing evidence. .''

Lewis said statements by the victim contradicted statements made by witnesses and supported Fisher's claims he did not assault the woman.

Fisher is a former Northridge Little Leaguer who helped Chatsworth win a Los Angeles City title and a berth in the American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  World Series in the summer. He was arrested Sunday morning after attending a fraternity party and going to a residence where some San Diego players and the woman lived.

San Diego State baseball officials on Friday said one player was suspended and another was removed from the team in the wake of the allegations.

 when he learned Friday morning that the case was dropped.

``Like I told you, my son did not commit this crime,'' Jack Fisher said.

Chatsworth coach Tom Meusborn said Loyola Marymount University, Oklahoma and UC Santa Barbara remain interested in Fisher, and he didn't think the San Diego matter would negatively affect Fisher's chances of playing collegiate baseball.

Jack Fisher said his son is considering waiting until April before choosing a college.

``We want to forget about this now,'' Fisher said.
