CASCADE TEAMS WITH IBM FOR GLOBAL NETWORK SERVICE DELIVERY.


WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1995--Cascade Communications Corporation has teamed with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corporation to deliver seamless, on-site maintenance and technical service to Cascade's public and private enterprise customers building global enterprise-wide networks. The partnership pairs IBM's highly trained service resources with Cascade's high performance, standards-based wide area networking systems and services, to provide users with the technology and service required for growing global networks.

Through the new service alliance, Cascade users are assured of comprehensive, on-site hardware service through IBM's worldwide service organization. This service alliance will be implemented first in the U.S., followed by international expansion. Cascade selected IBM as a service provider because of their expertise and experience in supporting global networks. Cascade evaluated and rated IBM as the best service delivery organization on the basis of worldwide customer satisfaction, service delivery, market presence, ease of doing business, and future service directions.

Timely On-Site Service

Cascade's global service organization enables customers to maximize use of existing technologies, while planning and migrating to future technologies. The agreement with IBM will enable Cascade to expand on its customer service capabilities, while preserving quick response and ease of contact for customers.

Under the agreement, Cascade's service organization will continue to be the first point of contact for all customer problem resolution. Upon receiving a customer service call, a Cascade customer service engineer will perform a diagnostic evaluation diagnostic evaluation Workup Medtalk An evaluation used to diagnose disease Components Medical Hx, CXR or other images, collection of specimens from blood for lab analysis  to determine the network problem. If a Cascade customer service engineer determines there is a hardware problem with Cascade equipment, the Cascade engineer will dispatch an IBM customer engineer (job) IBM Customer Engineer - (CE) A hardware guy from IBM.  to the customer site.

Depending on location, customers may contract with Cascade for various on-site response plans.

 Deployment and Technical Training

IBM will carry the necessary spares inventory at its locations to provide quick service to the customer base. IBM's sophisticated logistics system will manage deployment of spare parts. This highly automated system will help Cascade to better support and plan for field spares inventory levels, and increase customer satisfaction.

Cascade will provide IBM personnel with complete product training on a continuous basis. Comprehensive training on Cascade's entire product line will aid IBM's service organization in resolving on-site customer issues.
