CARVE-UP; Red-card Adebayor: Arbeloa went down as if I'd put a knife in him PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE RACE ERUPTS Arsenal 1 Liverpool 1.

Byline: By MIKE WALTERS

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR Emmanuel Adebayor (born February 26, 1984 in Lomé, Togo) is a Togolese football player who currently plays for Arsenal. He had previously played for FC Metz and AS Monaco. He is of Nigerian descent via his parents who were born in the Osun State in south-west Nigeria.  accused Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa of going down as if he had been "knifed" as the title race erupted in a red-card storm.

Arsenal striker Adebayor was sent off for two studs-up challenges, and skipper Cesc Fabregas could be out for three weeks with a medial ligament medial ligament

injury, after another costly afternoon for the Gunners.

While Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, recovering from kidney stones, directed his team by proxy from his sick bed at home, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger predictably slaughtered referee Howard Webb Howard Melton Webb (born july 14 1971) is an English football referee in the FA Premier League. He is based in Rotherham, Yorkshire.[1] His first game in the Premiership was on 18 October 2003, when he took charge of the 0 - 0 draw between Fulham and Wolves.  for dismissing Adebayor.

protest came from Adebayor afterwards as Liverpool edged two points clear of Chelsea at the top.

The giant Togo striker had been booked after 38 minutes, for leaving his foot in on Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua, when he sent Arbeloa tumbling 17 minutes after the interval.

TV replays showed he had left his studs showing again, but Adebayor - who will now miss Arsenal's Boxing Day showdown with Aston Villa - raged: "I hope when the referee goes home and watches it on TV, he will see it was a foul but I did not deserve a card.

"It was a mistake from him - the defender threw himself on the floor as if I had put a knife in him, and of course I am annoyed.

"I can't say he cheated, but it wasn't fair play at all. If I don't put my body in there I would never score in this league because we must protect the ball."

Wenger, who sneered that Liverpool were "scared" of being caught on the break by 10 men, said: "The red card was very soft.

Neither booking was justified, it was a joke. We lost two points because of the referee."
