CARTEL, TURBOCOVERAGE TO JOIN MERGER LIFTS 'POINT-OF-SALE' CAR INSURANCE.

Byline: Evan Pondel Staff Writer

ENCINO - Auto insurers Cartel Marketing and TurboCoverage announced Thursday their merger to form ExpressLink in an effort to accelerate policy sales in California, Arizona and Nevada.

``They (Cartel) are the 800-pound gorilla gorilla, an ape, Gorilla gorilla, native to the lowland and mountain forests of western and central equatorial Africa. Now that TurboCoverage has teamed up with Cartel, Barry said the companies will be able to dominate the point-of-sale insurance arena - about 70,000 policies annually - without competing against each other.

Encino-based Cartel also sold point-of-sale insurance before partnering with TurboCoverage. Dale Penn, former vice president of marketing for Cartel, said TurboCoverage was an attractive suitor SUITOR. One who is a party to a suit or action in court. One who is a party to an action. ``It's a match made in heaven,'' said Penn, who is now vice president of marketing for ExpressLink.

TurboCoverage had already established a relationship with Computerized Vehicle Registration, a partnership between ADP (1) (Automatic Data Processing) Synonymous with data processing (DP), electronic data processing (EDP) and information processing.

Ideally, Penn said, a car buyer who does not have insurance will be able to have instant coverage provided the dealer's computer is equipped with an ExpressLink icon.
