Married Jonathan Steele sent furious texts to a woman doctor who called off their affair after finding out that his wife was pregnant.

Steele, a pounds 125,000-a-year consultant, bombarded his victim with the texts - of a vicious and sexual nature - for weeks until she finally snapped and reported him.

An investigation into his conduct was launched by the board at the hospital - which houses some of Scotland's most dangerous offenders- and the General Medical Council.

suspended him as a result and now he has been given the boot from his job.

Ten strict undertakings have also been imposed on his registration as apsychiatrist by the GMC.

The 37-year-old consultant was senior house officer at the State Hospital at Carstairs when he fell for his colleague.

Steele, from Gorebridge, Midlothian, has been married for nine years to doctor wife Anna, But he and the other woman doctor began afling which lasted several months.

She ended the affair when she found out Steele's wife was heavily pregnant with their second child.

But insiders said he refused to accept the split and began plaguing her with vicious and sexual text and voicemail messages over a number of weeks until she broke and passed them on to her boss.

Asource said last night: "Jon went berserkwhen she dumped him.

"His poor wife knew nothing about the affair until he was sacked and he had to confess all.

"She's sticking by him for the sake of the kids. They've got a new wee babyboyand a five-year-old girl.

"He'll be lucky to get another job after this because it is on his record. He was suspended from practising by the GMC while they investigated it.

"Now he is allowed to work his registration is restricted because of those list of undertakings put on by the GMC."

Steele planned to take Carstairs to an industrial tribunal industrial tribunal nmagistratura de trabajo, tribunal m laboral

for unfair dismissal but the action was dropped last month.

Last night, Steele refused to comment about the matter and his wife simply said: "We will not be talking about this."

A Carstairs spokeswoman said: "Due to confidentiality and data protection, the State Hospital is u n a b l e t o p r o v i d e a n y information relating to staff or patients, past or present."

The GMC confirmed Steele had been suspended and the outcome of an investigation means that he is now registered with undertakings which will be reviewed every year.

It means Steele must alert future employers to his disciplinary record and there must be a workplace supervisor to watch over him. He also has to keep the GMC informed if he applies for a new job A GMC spokesman said: "This psychiatrist was suspended and investigated and as a result he is nowregistered with undertakings."
