Byline: PAT NOLAN Patrick J. Nolan (born 1950) is an American lawyer, politician, and activist.

Nolan began his career as a conservative activist. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California.

ANY two from six teams could be relegated from Division Three by the close of business tomorrow evening.

The top of the table appears to be complete with Tipperary's promotion confirmed by the defeat of Louth two weeks ago, while DOWN'S easy win over Offaly means their scoring difference of plus 20 allows them anything up to a 10-point defeat to ROSCOMMON tomorrow without any danger of Fergal O'Donnell's side overtaking o·ver·take

can theoretically finish second if they win tomorrow, but it is highly improbable given that they must run up huge totals while hoping that Down are well beaten by Roscommon.

In reality, Cavan, Limerick and Roscommon would take guaranteed safety if it was offered to them right now.

Roscommon will feel they are capable of beating Down at home, though by nothing like the 11-point margin that they require to leapfrog the Mourne men.

The more likely result is a win for Ross Carr's side.

LOUTH'S only win since their impressive start against Limerick has been over Longford, who are in even worse dire straits Noun 1. dire straits - a state of extreme distress

CAVAN have been erratic throughout but still have shown a better spread of form which indicates that they can leave Drogheda with both points to safeguard their Division Three status.

TIPPERARY'S form has been very impressive but it may be difficult to maintain it having already secured promotion, but LONGFORD'S confidence can't be any higher than rock bottom after four defeats on the trot trot

. Their far greater need to win may not be enough to overcome the considerable gap between the two sides' performance levels so far.

Defeats for Louth and Longford would send both down to Division Four, rendering the outcome of the Offaly-Limerick game meaningless.

OFFALY need to win to be sure though, while a draw would do LIMERICK.

However, Offaly have shown enough battling qualities, if little else, in their three home games so far to suggest that they may end Division Three with an ugly win.
