 Carnival may be fuzzy, but the weekend event - a mainstay in the city and one of the most popular family festivals - is still drawing thousands of fun-seekers decades later.

``We come every year - the kids love it,'' said Geri Lloyd, of Simi Valley. ``He needs to stop spinning from the last ride before he goes on the next one,'' she said of her 5-year-old.

Summer aromas, like barbecue chicken, ice cream and freshly made cotton candy, floated among the visitors, rides and games.

Lloyd's son, Jesse, raved about the ``Hurricane ''ride. ``It spins so fast, it made a mark on my leg, see?'' said the youngster. ``I'm going on the apple spin ride next.''

The Catholic church began hosting what many say started as a barbecue back in the 1940s, and eventually added rides and games. The money gathered from the yearly event goes in part to the church's school, according to according to

The carnival, located at 1305 Royal Ave., will welcome people today from 2 to 11 p.m. An all-day ride bracelet costs $10.
