CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES TO MARKET VISA CARD

MIAMI, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- In another cruise industry first, a Carnival Cruise Lines Visa card, which allows cardholders to earn points towards the purchase of a "Fun Ship" cruise vacation, will soon be available.
Cardholders will earn up to 3 percent of their monthly net purchases towards significant savings on Carnival cruises. Awards will range from a two-category upgrade to $500 or $800 in savings on any "Fun Ship" cruise.
"We believe this program will be highly beneficial to travel agents in driving business into their agencies because when people sign up for the card, they will have, in effect, pre-committed to buying a Carnival cruise," said Carnival President Bob Dickinson. "We will be heavily targeting past guests initially, who are already pre-disposed to taking another cruise, with the card serving as a powerful added incentive to book," he explained. Dickinson added that an incentive program to encourage travel agents to help market the card is presently being formulated.
According to Visa U.S.A. President and CEO Carl Pascarella, "The Carnival Cruise Lines Visa card is the wave of the future of co-branded credit cards. Many organizations will look at this program as a role model because it has all the elements of a winner -- innovative marketing, two strong brands, a large customer base, and substantial incentives."
Both Carnival Cruise Visa and Visa Gold cards will be offered with no annual fee for the first six months. Thereafter, the annual fee is $25 for Visa cards and $40 for Visa Gold with an annual percentage rate for both of 16.9 percent.
The program is administered by MBNA America Bank, N.A., a national bank with over $11 billion in managed loans to 10 million customers nationwide. MBNA will furnish cardholders with award certificates once they have reached one of the three award levels. The cruise is then booked at whatever normal fare is available (including SuperSavers discount, if applicable) with the Carnival Cruise Visa upgrade or discount then applied on top of that. Commissions will be paid on the original fare amount prior to any reduction.
MBNA America Bank, the country's second-largest lender through bank credit cards, is endorsed by 3,200 membership organizations and financial institutions.
