CARL KARCHER ENTERPRISES ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc. (NASDAQ: CARL) today announced it has hired Donald E. Doyle as president and chief executive officer. Doyle will succeed company founder Carl N. Karcher who continues as chairman of the board.
 Doyle, former president of Kentucky Fried Chicken USA, will join Carl Karcher Enterprises Jan. 1 with full responsibility for leading the company's operations, which include the chain of 640 Carl's Jr. restaurants.
 "Last week we received a clear mandate from the board to work toward fulfilling the operational potential of our company," Karcher said. "We are pleased that Don Doyle, with his rich experience in management, marketing and the restaurant industry, is coming on board to lead that effort."
 Doyle, 46, spent 16 years with Kentucky Fried Chicken Corp. He joined the company in 1973, rising through marketing and strategic planning to serve as president of KFC-USA from 1984 to 1988. During Doyle's tenure, KFC-USA grew to more than $950 million in revenues and was composed of 1,250 company-owned and 3,700 franchised restaurants. KFC sales per restaurant grew to $670,000 in 1988 from $280,000 in 1979.
 Most recently, Doyle served as president and chief executive officer of the Greater Louisville Economic Development Partnership, a non-profit economic development organization responsible for attracting new business and investors to the Louisville metropolitan area.
 From 1968 to 1973, Doyle held various positions in the operations research department of Marathon Oil Co. He holds a master's degree in business administration with a specialization in finance from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana.
 Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc. operates Carl's Jr. restaurants, a regional quick-service chain known for its varied menu and healthful, premium quality products. Founded in 1941, the company, its franchisees and licensees operate more than 640 restaurants in California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, China, Japan, Malaysia and Mexico.
