Herman Stevens, 19, was arrested at his home on suspicion of carjacking The criminal taking of a motor vehicle from its driver by force, violence, or intimidation. The u.s. justice department categorizes the crime of carjacking as a "completed or attempted Robbery of a motor vehicle by a stranger , Lt. Diane Walker said. He was being held on $100,000 bail and is due in court Tuesday. Court records show that Stevens was arrested in May 2006 for grand theft. He was sentenced to 180 days' probation probation, method by which the punishment of a convicted offender is conditionally suspended. The offender must remain in the community and under the supervision of a probation officer, who is usually a court-appointed official. . The woman told deputies she met Stevens at a party, where she was given some sort of sleeping pill sleeping pill, a pill containing medication that induces sleep. Benzodiazepines such as temazepam (Restoril) and triazolam (Halcion) have for the most part replaced barbiturates as drugs of choice for insomnia. and was subsequently raped at that location, Walker said. The victim then offered to give Stevens and another man a ride home, Walker said. Stevens allegedly sat behind the victim while the other man sat in the front passenger seat. At one point during the ride, the passenger punched the woman on the side of the face and Stevens attempted to placed a belt around her neck, Walker said. The woman managed to jump, and the pair drove off, Walker said. Deputies arrested Stevens at his Canyon Country home Thursday night. The victim subsequently identified Stevens as her assailant, Walker said. The second suspect remained at large. |
