CARING 2008 Annual Meeting report.Over 50 early risers attended the CARING 2008 Annual Meeting held at 7:00am on Friday April 18th at the Gaylord National Resort on the Potomac in Maryland. CARING President, Jerry Chamberlain, spoke to the audience about CARING's accomplishments over the past year, as well as plans and goals for 2008 and beyond. Below are the major points of Jerry Chamberlain's presentation. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] CARING Beginnings * Founded in 1982 at SCAMC SCAMC Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care (AMIA) * Started in Washington, DC, MD, and VA area. * 1990s name changed from "Rounders round·er n. 1. One that rounds, especially a tool for rounding corners and edges. 2. One, such as a security guard, who makes rounds. 3. A dissolute person. 4. Sports a. " to CARING * 1995--we were on-line with a website! * Incorporated in 2000, bylaws The rules and regulations enacted by an association or a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management. Bylaws may specify the qualifications, rights, and liabilities of membership, and the powers, duties, and grounds for the dissolution of an , BoD created * Gradually, new benefits were added--newsletter, improvements to the website, an on-line job bank, and even branching out to webcasting. CARING Today * A national (and international organization) * Founding member and contributor to the Alliance for Nursing Informatics Nursing Informatics is a specialty of Health care informatics which deals with the support of nursing by information systems in delivery, documentation, administration and evaluation of patient care and prevention of diseases. Army of the United States CARING Mission CARING is a nursing informatics organization advancing the delivery of quality healthcare through the integration of informatics in practice, education, administration, and research. Actions Towards the Mission: * Provide educational experiences with contact-hour events. * Publish educational and informational articles. * Act as a clearinghouse for seminars, positions and speakers. * Make available a professional network for healthcare information system professionals. * Work collaboratively with other organizations to promote the discipline of nursing and healthcare informatics. 2007 Goals Accomplished * Continue/Enhance Education Focus--web casting * Work towards a convergence of groups into a national infrastructure * Visibility/Growth/Awareness--local meetings, new members, meeting support, newsletter distribution * Solidify the infrastructure--treasury, taxes, file management, bylaws, role profiles, transfer of roles, addresses, establish telephone number CARING Membership Profile Currently, there are 1868 members from 50 states and 30 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Egypt, England, Finland, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia.
