CARETENDERS HEALTHCORP REPORTS THIRD QUARTER EARNINGS AND REVENUES

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Caretenders HealthCorp (NASDAQ: CTND) today reported higher third quarter earnings and revenues. For the period ending Dec. 31, 1992, the Company reported net income of $108,000 (A) ($.01 per share) versus a loss of $518,000 in the same period last year. Revenue for the period was $11,373,000 compared to $9,842,000 in the third quarter of FY 92, an increase of 16 percent.
For the nine months ended Dec. 31, 1992, Caretenders earned $536,000 ($.03 per share) compared with a loss of $935,000 last year. Revenue climbed to $32,289,000 from last year's $28,075,000.
William Yarmuth, Caretenders' chairman and CEO, said that despite dramatic improvements, results were adversely affected by accelerated efforts to expand the Company's chain of adult day care centers, as well as by initial operating losses sustained by new home health operations in Richmond, Va. and Boston, Mass.
"Our mature operations are performing impressively," Yarmuth said. "However, our short term earnings will continue to be affected by our commitment to the aggressive expansion of our adult day care business, as well as by our home health start-ups. We are convinced that the Company's long term success demands rapid growth and expansion."
Yarmuth said the Company was encouraged by recent signs that the Clinton administration was easing restrictions on the states' abilities to fund adult day care services and health care services in the home. "Everyone is trying to figure out how to hold down health care costs, and using less expensive, alternative sites is one sure method for doing that," Yarmuth said. "It's obvious that health care reform proposals must place greater emphasis on alternative site delivery, and we're confident that they will."
