It was really cool to see how calm the doctor was.'' Started in 1997 as a way to help young people discover job skills and interests, Groundhog Job Shadowing day last year included more than 75,000 businesses and 1 million students nationwide. Canyon High junior Nadia Estevez spent the morning at St. Stephen's Nursery School in Valencia, helping children color and build with blocks. ``This is really important because if there's something (students) want to do, this lets them get the feel for if they like it or not,'' Estevez said. ``The future is very important, and this helps guide the future.'' Teacher Sharie Telles said she was happy to host Estevez, recalling her own experience with mentors when she finished school. ``I had some good mentors when I started, and that helped me get a feel for the love of the job. And I still remember that first lady who helped me,'' Telles said. Tess Simgen, business coordinator for the School and Business Alliance, said the efforts to place students with interesting local businesses was a great success. ``It shows me that the program is working and the word is getting out,'' Simgen said.
