The visit would have been his last official engagement before he steps down from the role on Friday, to be replaced by Crosby-born Archbishop Vincent Nichols. The Cardinal was taken ill during the Bishops' Conference two weeks ago and spent a week in hospital in Leeds being being transferred to another hospital in London..
