Eight gunshots were heard by witnesses and officers patrolling the area at 3:15 a.m., said Sgt. Kirk Palmer. Witnesses told police that passengers in a silver sedan and a blue car were shooting at each other as they drove north on San Fernando Boulevard, then south on Brand Boulevard.

Police said the shootout might have continued as the two cars approached Los Angeles' Hyperion Bridge. The wounded man, whose name was not released, was listed in serious condition.
