CAR-POOL PROJECT TO BEGIN SOON FINISH EXPECTED IN 2007.

Byline: Jim Skeen Staff Writer

LANCASTER - Construction will begin early next year on 6.2 miles of car-pool lanes long planned for the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. , transportation officials said Wednesday.

Speaking at a regional transportation summit in Lancaster, state Transportation Department officials said a $40 million project to add a car-pool lane in each direction between Avenue P-8 and Pearblossom Highway should be out for bids from construction companies in a few weeks.

``We expect it will be completed in the fall of '07,'' said Tad (Telephone Answering Device) An answering machine.  Teferi, deputy district director of Caltrans' District 7.

Completing the widening of the Antelope Valley Freeway is among regional officials' top transportation priorities. The car-pool lane project would help ease a bottleneck A lessening of throughput. It often refers to networks that are overloaded, which is caused by the inability of the hardware and transmission lines to support the traffic. It can also refer to a mismatch inside the computer where slower-speed peripheral buses and devices prevent the CPU  where the freeway south of Palmdale is reduced to just two lanes in each direction.

The car-pool lanes are among several highway projects in the works.

The $19.1 million widening of Highway 138's ``twin bridges'' over Big Rock Wash at 165th Street East is now slated for completion in early 2007.

The area is the only stretch of highway for several miles in which drivers have no shoulder to drive onto in case an oncoming on·com·ing

However, a long-term project - creating an expressway between the Antelope Valley Freeway and 50th Street East along the route of Avenue P-8 - has experienced a dramatic jump in right-of-way acquisition cost estimates.

``The cost has increased because of rising property values,'' said Abdi Saghafi, senior transportation engineer with Caltrans.

There's about $24 million available for right-of-way acquisition at this time.
