CAR COLLIDES WITH PACKED BUS; ONE KILLED, 12 INJURED.

One woman was killed and 12 people injured Thursday when a car turned into the path of an oncoming bus full of developmentally disabled adults, police said.

The 1993 GMC Saturn was turning left from westbound Sherman Way onto Fullbright Avenue about 2 p.m., when it collided with the eastbound bus, said Officer M. Edmonson of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The force of the impact pushed the Saturn 30 feet before it flipped onto its side.

``It continued to push the car on its side all the way until they hit a palm tree,'' Edmonson said.

The Saturn's passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. Their names were not released, but both women were believed to be in their 20s, Edmonson said.

Eleven people on the Laidlaw bus, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals. None of their injuries was believed to be life-threatening.

A parked vehicle on Sherman Way was flipped onto its side when it was struck by the vehicles, and a second parked car was also damaged.

Tuyen Thi, 12, was standing on the corner of Fullbright and Sherman when the collision occurred.

``There was also this generous lady holding the hand of a woman on the bus saying, 'Please don't die,''' Thi said. ``I felt really sad.''
