CAPSULE PREVIEWS : LONG BEACH STATE.

Coach: Wayne Morgan Wayne Morgan (born October 7, 1950) was the Iowa State University men's basketball coach from (2003-2006). Morgan was hired after Larry Eustachy's resignation. He was fired abruptly in March 2006 for a poorly disciplined team and recruiting discrepancies. [1]. .

1995-96: 17-11.

Starters lost: 2.

Outlook: Former Syracuse assistant Wayne Morgan inherits plenty of talent from the departed Seth Greenberg Seth Greenberg is the current head basketball coach for the Virginia Tech Hokies men's basketball team. Greenberg is currently in his fourth season as head coach of the Hokies. In his first three seasons, he led the Hokies to an overall record of 45-44. . Most experts pencil in the 49ers as the favorites in the Big West's Western Division.

The best player is guard James Cotton, who has a fractured rib but said he will be ready for the season-opener against USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. . His much-publicized younger brother, Schea, signed a national letter of intent with Long Beach last week. Also back are forward Akeli Jackson and center Brian Yankelevitz.

However, 6-9 forward Marcus Johnson has been suspended indefinitely after hitting a teammate in practice.

The 49ers are also bringing in some talented newcomers. Point guard Tommie Davis is a transfer from Houston, 6-7 freshman Greg Clark is a well-regarded forward and former UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
postman Ike Nwankwo becomes eligible Dec. 21.

UC IRVINE

Coach: Rod Baker.

1995-96 record: 15-12.

Starters lost: 4.

Outlook: This could be Baker's swan song at Irvine. Besides the expected departure of senior point guard Raimonds Miglinieks, Baker unexpectedly lost All-Big West players Kevin Simmons and Brian Keefe, who transferred to UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  and Boston College, respectively.

Freshman guard Clay McKnight also left the program and is attending Saddleback Saddleback

Community College before transferring to Pacific next year.

Most of the early burden will fall on Paul Foster, the former Thousand Oaks High School Thousand Oaks High School is a high school established in 1962 and located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is a California Distinguished School, and offers curriculum at all levels for Thousand Oaks students. The mascot is the lancer.  and Moorpark College star. Foster is the Anteaters' most-experienced returning player, averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds last season.

The new point guard will be sophomore Lamarr Parker, who played in 24 games last season. The most-exciting players could be 6-6 freshman Brian Johnson from St. John Bosco High School St. John Bosco High School (SJBHS) is a Catholic high school located in Bellflower, California, USA; conducted by the Salesians of St. John Bosco, San Francisco Province. SJBHS is named after Saint John Bosco and was originally founded as an elementary and intermediate boarding , and 6-8 forward Wendell Robinson from Santa Monica City College.

UC SANTA BARBARA

Coach: Jerry Pimm.

1995-96 record: 11-15.

Starters lost: 3.

Outlook: The Gauchos have little experience, with only three returnees who had any game time. Actually two, if you consider that leading rebounder Kealon Wallace has a fractured left hand and will miss the start of the season.

But all the new additions are not necessarily a bad thing. Raymond Tutt, a 6-4 guard from Azusa Pacific, had 28 points in Santa Barbara's intra-squad game. Former Pepperdine forward Josh Merrill had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the same game.

There's also 6-10 junior college transfer Matt Pinkney.

The influx of talent surrounding Nealon and guard Bakir Allen means Santa Barbara should be better than last season. It just might take Pimm some time to mold it.

CAL STATE FULLERTON

Coach: Bob Hawking.

1995-96 record: 6-20.

Starters lost: 1.

Outlook: Like Irvine, most of Fullerton's offseason news centered on players it lost.

The biggest loss was 6-7 freshman Ike Harmon from Santa Ana Valley The Santa Ana Valley is located in Orange County, California and is bisected by the Santa Ana River. The valley is home to most of Orange County’s central business districts. , who is ineligible because he could not meet Prop. 48 requirements.

Shooting guard Chris St. Clair Chris St. Clair is a The Weather Network weekend morning and early afternoon broadcaster. He is a former commercial pilot. He is interested in weather, climate, and geography.  will also miss the start of the season with a broken left hand. He redshirted last season and is the Titans' best outside shooter.

There is plenty of experience, if not overwhelming talent. Forward John Williams (14.2 points, 7.2 rebounds) and guard Chris Dade (12.5 points) should be the heart of the lineup.

Whether they are enough to improve Hawking's two-year record of 13-40 remains the tough question.

The Titans are small, starting 6-7 center Mark Richardson and 6-5 power forward John Williams.
