CAPP, The Breast Test for Cancer, is Well Received in Argentina.Business Editors & Health/Medical Writers RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2001 Jim Holmes, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Lifeline BioTechnologies, Inc., (NQB NQB National Quotation Bureau, Inc (now Pink Sheets) :LBTI LBTI Left Belt Tensioner Igniter ) announced today that encouraging progress is being made in the company's clinical trials, which are ongoing in Argentina. Holmes returned from there three days ago. He and William Reeves
William Reeves, also known as Bill, is a pioneer in the field of computer graphics. , the company's President and Founder, were inspecting results of the trials and discussing possible licensing arrangements for CAPP(TM), their early breast cancer detection system. The retrospective phase of the trials is nearing completion. In this phase, the CAPP(TM) (Computer Assisted Physiological Profile) test was used on women who had already been screened and identified as having breast cancer. Professor Martin Laguens, M.D., Chief of Pathology at the University of La Plata La Plata (lä plä`tä), city (1991 pop. 640,344), capital of Buenos Aires prov., E central Argentina, 5 mi (8.1 km) inland from Ensenada, its port on the Río de la Plata. School of Medicine and the head of Lifeline's clinical investigations in South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , noted that the results of the initial findings of these tests had confirmed 55 cancers. All the data gathered about these cases will be used to further train Chrononet(TM), Lifeline's patented and proprietary Artificial Neural Network (artificial intelligence) artificial neural network - (ANN, commonly just "neural network" or "neural net") A network of many very simple processors ("units" or "neurons"), each possibly having a (small amount of) local memory. Analysis computer system, and broaden its capability of detecting and differentiating many types of cancers. The prospective segment of the clinical trials got underway in December 2000. An additional 350 women will be tested in this segment, and these will be women who have not previously been identified by any screening process as having any kind of breast cancer problem. The CAPP(TM) test will therefore be finding cancers not anticipated nor previously looked for, and identifying them at a much earlier stage than has heretofore been possible. Reeves noted that meetings were held with representatives of the Hospital Employees Union, which had earlier expressed interest in having its women members receive the CAPP(TM) test. It has now been proposed that an initial group of 300 female Union members would be tested, commencing next month and to be completed by June 2001. (Note: This is entirely separate from the 350 mentioned above.) Assuming satisfactory results, an additional 2,700 women would then be tested. Ultimately, the prospect is that the test would be administered to all of the more than 30,000 Hospital Employees Union members, which includes hospital workers, nurses, doctors and doctors' wives. Holmes also commented on the progress of a proposed strategic alliance, as previously reported by Lifeline. Meetings with a group of Argentinean businessmen have led to the prospect of licensing the group for the marketing of the CAPP(TM) test in South America, Central America Central America, narrow, southernmost region (c.202,200 sq mi/523,698 sq km) of North America, linked to South America at Colombia. It separates the Caribbean from the Pacific. and Mexico. Final details of the licensing agreement are being discussed and a formal agreement is probable in the near future. Under the terms of any such licensing agreement, the manufacturing of the CAPP(TM) system will remain with Lifeline and all its components will be supplied by Lifeline to the Licensees. The analytical neural computer system (Chrononet(TM)) will also be retained by Lifeline and all testing will be submitted to it for interpretation. The results of the interpretation will be returned to the testing physician for his use in recommending therapy to his patient. Upon completion, the data is downloaded to the Chrononet(TM) for interpretation. This results in a virtual real-time examination and provides, among many other things, a method of identifying breast cancer at a significantly earlier pathological stage than any other currently available diagnostic procedure.
