, the board met for 90 minutes and voted 5-0 to allow the expansion of the athletic department to remain on schedule.

The decision goes against some of the 35 recommendations made in the report, which the board commissioned to the Davisburg, Mich.-based Collegiate col·le·giate

College president Dianne Van Hook said she believed the process could move quicker, and the board agreed.

``I did not see a deal-breaker,'' said Trustee John Hoskinson. ``Can we deal with Title IX? Yes we can.''

The report also recommended asking the Canyons students, as well as area high school students, what sports they would be interested in attending or participating.

It also advised improving some women's facilities. Van Hook said that is possible, but costs would have to be determined.

The next step in the process, board members said, would be for the school's foundation to accept the athletic fund-raising fund-raising, large-scale soliciting of voluntary contributions, especially in the United States. Title IX, the portion of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972, mandates schools must provide equal opportunities for both genders. A recent U.S. Appeals Court decision, which the Supreme Court refused to hear, demands that the percentage of female athletes must match the percentage of female students.
