SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- The College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Program was awarded the MESA Center of Excellence award for the 2005-06 academic year for leading the state community college system in the number of transfer students in math-based fields.

Of the 29 community college MESA programs in California, the college has the most transfers into four-year institutions. This was the second consecutive MESA award for College of the Canyons.

College of the Canyons' MESA Program, established in 2000, has seen 200 students transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

Graduates have gone on to careers with top employers including Amgen, Second Sight, Cedars Sinai and UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
