For the first time since June 1998, Fishman ran around the baseball field. The freshman is making a remarkable recovery from back surgery, needed to remove part of a disc that was pinching a nerve. ``I was supposed to take one to 1-1/2 years off from running,'' he said. ``I've healed so quickly that the doctor said it was OK. I feel brand new. I need to get all of my flexibility back, but I'm getting bigger and stronger every day.'' Fishman has had two appearances for COC this year. He went one inning each time, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out three. His modest numbers while he is still rehabilitating are a far cry from what Fishman is used to. The one thing he is not going to do is dwell on whatever impact the surgery had, is having, and will have on his life. He has already felt are a loss in velocity. He used to throw around 88 mph and, although he hasn't clocked himself recently, he said he thinks he is currently down to the low- to mid-80s. ``I just look to deal with what happened and get better,'' he said. ``It wasn't in my control, so I can't stay bitter about it.''
