a simple strategy - but it's not easy.

Heading into tonight's Southern Section Div. II championship against Hart (11-2) at Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.

Headquartered in Vinings, just outside Atlanta in unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia, Home Depot employs more than 355,000 people and operates 2,164 big-box
Center, DiLuigi has rushed for 1,794 yards, caught 29 passes and scored a Foothill League-record 42 touchdowns.

Combining power and speed, the 5-foot-10, 171-pound junior has rushed for 100 or more yards in seven of the past eight games, including a 143-yard, two-touchdown performance in a 16-14 victory over Hart one month ago. During one three-game stretch beginning in late October, DiLuigi scored 15 touchdowns.

Canyon (12-1) has relied heavily on DiLuigi. He has set a school single-season rushing record, is averaging 30.2 yards on kickoff returns - he returned one 99 yards for a touchdown - and nearly 220 total yards per game, and he's also a starting linebacker for a team that has allowed an average of 13 points.

``We knew J.J. DiLuigi was going to be a good player, but we really had no idea he'd be quite this good,'' Canyon coach Harry Welch Welch , William Henry 1850-1934.

said. ``He has exceeded all of our expectations.''

There were hints last season, when DiLuigi rushed for nearly 2,000 yards to lead the junior-varsity team to a 10-0 record.

``I guess I figured I'd get a lot of yards, but I'm a bit surprised by how many touchdowns I've scored,'' he said. ``I'm very confident, but I have to make sure not to get a big head.''

Opponents have concentrated so hard on stopping DiLuigi that Canyon's passing game has been nearly as effective as its running game. Unheralded quarterback Austin Civita has passed for 2,546 yards and 24 touchdowns, 11 of the scores coming in three playoff play·off also play-off

Canyon is a straight-ahead smash-mouth, football team - Hart relies on a wide-open passing attack - and DiLuigi is the Cowboys' spark spark, in electricity: see arc.
