The walkway/bike path is the latest piece of the city's ``backbone'' trail, which links smaller paths and pedestrian paseos throughout Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. The city will hold a formal grand opening at 10 a.m. March 16 at the trailhead, near Camp Plenty Road and Canyon View Drive.

The path links to city trails that follow the river and its tributaries, crisscrossing Santa Clarita. That leg of trail eventually will link to one that travels south through the planned River Park development near Bouquet Canyon Road and Soledad.

State and local funds, including money earmarked to promote bicycle use, paid for the trail.
