Outside pressure drives away another coach.

girls' soccer coach Chris Ward resignedhis position Friday after four months because of his health.

Ward said he got sick and couldn't get better in part because of the stress he received from parents unhappy at his coaching methods.

``Too much politics and parental pettiness,'' Ward said. ``A parent thinks this child is the center of the universe and thinks she can win a college scholarship, and the coach is blocking their path to greatness. I didn't come to fight and argue with anyone.''

Canyon athletic administrator Dave LeBarron said Ward's resignation was ``extremely unfortunate.'' He could tell the stress put a strain on Ward. He also noticed the time Ward put into soccer adversely affected his U.S. History classes.

Ward said he needed time to show his methods would work. Canyon was 2-1-1 when he stepped down. He said he was getting viral infections viral infection,

Modugno made it clear she was happy Ward was gone.

``I would quit if Ward stayed,'' she said. ``My skills haven't improved. He didn't know anything. I'm happy with my new coach.''

Cohen never saw this coming. He received a phone call from LeBarron Friday evening.

``It was a shock to me. It was a shock to a number of other coaches at the school,'' Cohen said.

Cohen said the team needs more conditioning and strategic work but expects the Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

out of nowhere, Becca Gould has shown herself to be a quality midfielder who can control the team when Erin Misaki is away meeting national team commitments.

In fact, Gould owes much success to her month spent at a camp in Bolivia last summer.

``My touch on the ball and my control got a lot better,'' she said. ``I learned when I thought I don't have any energy left, I do.''

Gould learned about the Bolivian culture, including how seriously the citizens take their soccer. She ran up sand dunes sand dune

Gould hardly speaks Spanish, but language wasn't a problem. Everyone understood soccer.
