The work for laying down the turf actually began last week with the placement of the field yard markers, sidelines and end zones.

When installed, the turf, called Sport Texe, will alternate between light and dark green every 10 yards to make for more pleasant viewing. While the delay figures to have a negligible impact on the renovation timetable, the rush is on to get the construction completed in time for the beginning of the school year.

As of now, McGee says all renovations should be completed by Aug. 12. Canyon High will open its doors to students Aug. 16. Also included in the project plans are a new concession stand, new ticket offices, state- of-the-art stadium lighting posts, upgraded bleachers and a new track.

The football sidelines will also double as a warm-up area for runners during track season.
