CANYON'S FLESHMAN FLOURISHES.

Lauren Fleshman felt bad, but she has never run better.

She avoided the excruciating stomach cramps that caused her to drop out of the Woodbridge and Kenny Staub invitationals this season and knocked 19 seconds off her school-record 18:14 run at last year's Mt. SAC invitational.

``Today was just a regular old cramp,'' said Fleshman, proudly wearing her finisher's medal around her neck. ``Everyone gets one of those from fatigue. I am used to getting a different kind of cramp, a severe one. The other one is really bad and I didn't get that one.''

Fleshman, along with a 12th-place finish from Erin White Erin White (born October 27, 1977 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian softball first baseman. She is a graduate of Iowa State University. She was a part of the Canadian Softball team who finished 5th at the 2004 Summer Olympics.  (19:13), helped lift Canyon to fourth-place in the team standings with 150 points. Camarillo tied Canyon with 150 points behind a 14th-place by Jeanene Gerry (19:21) but finished third on the basis of a faster sixth runner, 72nd to 82nd.

In the boys' individual sweepstakes, Hoover's Isabel Casillas shaved 17 seconds off his best to finish sixth in 15:40 the to lead the Tornadoes to sixth.

Fleshman was 10th in the girls' individual sweepstakes race at the mile passed in 5:38 and trailed early leader Nicole Portley of Arragon by 14 seconds. Fleshman moved into fifth shortly before two miles and overtook o·ver·took

``I could see them the whole time and they looked real strong,'' Fleshman said. ``I didn't want to go out too fast because of (stomach cramps), but I think I went out too slow. Runners like that don't come back to you like other runners do. They looked awesome and I was a little tired.''

The Quartz Hill girls had other obstacles to overcome but managed to solidify their No. 3 position in the Southern Section Division I rankings with Day's third-place finish Noun 1. third-place finish - a finish in third place (as in a race)

Freshman Jenny Yadon, battling the flu and a 102-degree temperature, finished as the Rebels' No. 6 runner in 92nd place in 20:54. Senior Carly Harrill, who finished fifth in last year's Southern Section finals, was Quartz Hill's No. 3 runner in 45th in 19:55.

Freshmen Katie Schettig and Kim Harrill, the younger sister of Carly, rounded out the Rebels' scoring in 60th and 75th in 20:15 and 20:32.
