CANONIE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES CORP. ANNOUNCES CONTRACT AWARDS, BACKLOG

DALLAS, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Canonie Environmental Services Corp. (NASDAQ: CANO), a leading provider of services for the remediation of hazardous waste sites, announced today that it has been awarded a contract in excess of $16 million for the cleanup of the Hardage Criner Superfund Site, located near Norman, Okla.
"We began to follow this project years ago," Richard Zartler, president of Canonie, stated, "the award to Canonie reflects recognition of our expertise in the remediation of difficult sites using state of the art technology."
The Oklahoma site, a former hazardous waste disposal facility, involves the innovative placement of a large interceptor trench in bedrock, capping the site and the installation of a water treatment facility. The project is expected to take 30 months.
Canonie's backlog, including this contract, is now over $60 million compared to $47 million at Feb. 28, 1993. "In spite of the difficult market conditions," Zartler added, "we have been able to increase backlog over the last six months. Long-term contracts involving sophisticated remediation techniques are key ingredients to improving our profits."
Canonie Environmental Services Corp. provides comprehensive, hazardous waste remediation services. The firm has over 14 years of experience in site investigation and characterization, strategic planning, engineering, construction, and operation and maintenance. The company has developed and applied practical, yet innovative technology to meet clients' needs. It is one of the few firms capable of providing such a broad range of services.
